Where neurodivergent leaders have created or risen to top positions in successful businesses, their successes can stimulate others’ success, even simply by showing that it can be done. More often, these leaders can advocate for the community as a whole to think bigger and with more clarity and direction to make changes in business development.

These companies have made a point of not only spreading the word that they support neurodiverse initiatives but also taking action. They have devoted money, time, and resources into building official programs to hire and retain neurodivergent workers. They have also advocated for others to stand with them, and they may “make a stink” to get things done right.

We hold companies to the highest standard. We are only considering businesses with sound financial data as a part of this index. Speculative or manipulative companies or companies with poor business practices will be excluded from inclusion. Profit and business viability is our goal, and we intend to link business success with the success of their neurodiversity initiatives. Our theory is this: what is good for the workers is good for business.

Companies that focus on making tools and products specifically for neurodivergent users hold a shining light in our model. We invest in companies that invest in the inclusion of neurodivergent communities.

Designing the next steps on how a company should include a minoritized group is best done with the direction of that group. Neurodivergent coaches and consultants who are paid for their expertise can breathe air into the process and make sure that it is done right from the start.

These companies have built out programs to support their diverse workers so that they have an outlet using employee resource groups. The basic building block of life in this context is forming a network of support that is respected by key leadership and used to build power within the organization with the help of neurodivergent workers.

These companies raise awareness by sharing support of the neurodiversity movement. They are interested in being included on disability-friendly corporate lists and have a regular campaign to discuss the benefits of inclusion.

Standard ethical treatment of workers is our baseline for inclusion. To us, that means flexible work options, ethical pay and benefits, as well as the basic necessity of treating workers with respect and care.
